Overnight hike and cave camp in Gardens of Stone National Park (Near Lithgow). We will be heading out to Gardens of Stone to camp in a cave we found recently whilst exploring a canyon.
The canyon is dry and has no abseils, so all you need to bring is gear for an overnight hike. We don’t need tents, but the cave is quite sandy, so I would recommend bringing a ground sheet so that you don’t get so much sand in your stuff. The trip is suitable for beginners with a reasonable level of fitness.
We will leave Sydney on Saturday morning, walk into the cave (only a couple of kms) then have most of the day to explore the canyon area. We will set up camp (and a fire), then walk out the next morning. We should be back in Sydney not too late on Sunday afternoon. If you are able to drive your car, let me know and I’ll open the trip up to more people. This trip is not close to any train stations.
You will need to bring:
-Warm clothes
(thermals, fleece, down jacket (if you have one), quick dry pants, rain jacket, beanie, bring plenty of layers it’ll be chilly) BUT NO JEANS, NO COTTON!
-Sturdy walking shoes and woollen or synthetic socks NO CROCS, NO SANDALS!
-Sleeping bag (very warm –it will be super cold!)
-Sleeping mat
-Food for the two days (and an extra meal in case of emergency)
-Stove and pots (if you don’t have a stove let me know so I can make sure we have enough others –there will be a fire too)
-Backpack to put it all in
-Any instruments you would like to bring along for campfire songs
-Marshmallows are compulsory!
Any questions let me know 🙂
