Dear Outdoorsy People,
Last minute beginner-friendly trip! If you’re willing and able and super-keen, come canyoning this Saturday! The plan is to do Tiger Snake – check out info at the following URL:
http://ozultimate.com/canyoning/track_notes/tiger_snake.htm
While this is a beginner-friendly trip, you still need to have a good level of fitness – you’ll be walking for a good 8 hours, including scrambling on rocks and carrying a pack up a big hill. There will also be abseiling, confined spaces and wet feet or even a shallow wade. You’ll need all of the gear described below – if you need to borrow from the club we’ll have to try and work out a time to get access to the gear cupboard.
If you’re not sure what canyoning is, check out the awesome info some lovely UNSWOCer has put up here: http://unswoc.org/wordpress/sports/canyoning/
Required gear:
- helmet
- harness
- abeiling device (figure 8, ATC, other)
- hiking clothes (boardshorts also work fine – no jeans or any other cotton clothing)
- closed-toe shoes with good grip that can get wet and dirty (Dunlop volleys are a good option as they are cheap and have really good grip)
- 1L water bottle
- lunch and snacks – it’s a long day and you’ll need the energy!
- thermals/fleece jumper and a beanie (no cotton!)
- rain jacket
- socks (thick hiking socks work best with wet feet)
- headtorch if you have one
- a dad joke to share
