Butterbox Canyon – Beginner/Intermediate – Sunday 16/11/2025

Come join Daniel and I (Georgie) for an intermediate trip through Butterbox Canyon this Sunday.

This canyon involves some tricky abseils and (optional) big jumps.  Even the exit is a little spicy, as we will need to put our harnesses back on for an exposed traverse and a short pitch of rock climbing! Have a read of the notes here.

Since this is an intermediate canyon, all participants should have some canyoning experience or previous abseiling/climbing experience, as well as a keen spirit. If you have any questions on your suitability for the trip please send me Daniel or Georgie a message on facebook.

Please make sure you bring ALL the required gear (otherwise, you will have a fun day exploring the carpark 😊 ).

Available to borrow from the Club:

• Wetsuit
• Harness
• Helmet
• 1x Figure 8 / Descender
• 3x Locking carabiners
• 1x Safety sling (120cm)
• Backpack that can get wet and will fit all of your gear
• Dry bag/Keg that is big enough to fit your clothes, thermals and lunch

Other gear you must bring:

• Clothing
  • Enclosed shoes with good grip, suitable for water and bushwalking
  • Wool or neoprene socks
  • Walking clothes (to walk in/out)
  • Old shorts to wear over wetsuit (compulsory to protect club wetsuits)
  • Raincoat
  • Thermal top and bottom
  • Swimmers for under wetsuit
  • NO COTTON! (this includes socks, shirts, pants, etc)
• Food
  • 1.5L of water minimum
  • Lunch
  • Snacks if you want to make friends 😊
• Other
  • Any personal medical supplies (e.g. asthma puffer, epi-pen)
  • Head torch + spare batteries
  • Dry clothes and a towel for the drive back home
