Bungonia Caving Trip

This Saturday, Alex and I (Maddi) will be heading down south to Bungonia for some caving. We will be visiting B4-5 (Aka Fossil Cave and Hogan’s Cave) via Devils Kitchen, where we can practice abseiling/ascending and help clear out the sump.

This is a beginner friendly trip that will involve abseiling, scrambling, squeezing, crawling and ascending if you choose. Be prepared for small spaces, darkness, heights, dust and probably bats! There will be abseiling on this trip and it is preferred you have some rope work experience.

We will be meeting up at Bungonia National Park on Saturday Morning (approx 2 hours drive south). Bungonia has one of the best campgrounds around, with hot showers, a kitchen and proper toilets so feel free to come down and camp overnight. As seen above, the caves can get dirty so keep this in mind when deciding on your gear for the day.

What YOU need to bring:

• Enclosed shoes
• Long sleeved clothes/long pants that you are comfortable getting dirty/will keep you warm for a full day in the cave
• Gloves
• Helmet* (available to be borrowed from the club)
• Harness*
• Descender* (Figure 8/raprack etc.)
• Prusik/biner*
• Sling/biner (safety)*
• Set of ascenders*
• Headtorch
• Spare batteries for headtorch or secondary torch
• Food/snacks for the day
• At least 1L water
• Small bag to carry everything
• Personal medications

As there are hot showers available at the campground, I would also suggest bringing a towel, change of clothes to fully experience the available amenities! and not completely wreck whoevers car you’re in.

Please include in the comment your experience (outdoors background and whether you have any caving/abseiling/ascending experience), whether you have a car and how many people you can take OR where you need a lift from, and the best name for a new puppy (just so we know you have read all of this information).
