~BP ONLY~SUNDAY~ Jerrara Creek Canyon

A beautiful canyon for those who enjoy seeing the sky. Abseil past big waterfalls and trek out through the Bungonia National Park. Best of all, no rope ascending!

This canyon is a very long day, we will start before sunrise and end after sunset, expect for it to take 11+ hrs.

Please be aware of the following dangers before attending the trip: 

Loose rock, possibility of rockfall

Scrambling over loose and wet rock

Long swims (30m+) and full emersion in cold water

Abseiling in water flow with possibility of aquatic hazards (Weather dependent)

Multipitch abseil with total height of 90m, including slab rebelay

Creek walking along rough slippery terrain

Steep ascents and descents on Grade 5 track after sunset

Optional rock jumps into water up to 10m

Gear

Gear must be brought with you to Bungonia Palooza, no gear is supplied on the weekend. If you need gear, borrow from a gear night beforehand.

• Canyoning Harness*
• Helmet*
• Seland Wetsuit (4mm+) *
• 3x locking carabiner*
• 1x prussik (Used as a third hand)
• 1x figure 8* or other canyoning descender – e.g. critter, squirrel. (ATCs and racks are not accepted)
• 1x safety (a 120cm sling is acceptable)
• 1x large drybag*
• Emergency blanket (can be purchased from the gear cupboard, most outdoor stores, and pharmacies for $5-10)
• Canyoning Backpack (If you don’t have one try get from club)
• Clothing –
  • Enclosed shoes with good grip (e.g. old sneakers)
  • Dry and sun-safe clothes to hike in/out of the canyon in
  • Thick socks / neoprene socks
  • Light raincoat that is ok to get wet
  • Thermal top and bottoms, jumper & beanie (e.g. enough clothing to keep warm in a canyon overnight in an emergency)
  • Optional: swimmers to put under your wetsuit, microfibre towel
  • DO NOT BRING COTTON CLOTHING.

• Food –
  • 1.5L of water in bottles (more if it’s hot)
  • Substantial lunch (pack it in a waterproof container, and make sure it’s vaguely crush-proof)
  • Snacks
• Any personal medicine (asthma puffer, Epipen etc)

Intermediate – super keen people with rope experience who are okay with being a bit cold.
