BOREE LOG is BACK AGAIN, just to get your mid semester break off to the perfect start.

For anyone who’s been to BOREE LOG before, this event requires little introduction… but for anyone else, this is UNSWOC’s premiere bi-annual event where we take a huge group of you away for a weekend of incredible fun, endless trips, dinner, camping and more!

This event we will be at Bendeela Campground in the Kangaroo Valley. Our theme is Nautical Nonsense! We want to see your best ocean and nautical themed costumes. From Spongebob to Jack Sparrow to dressing as an inflatable swan, if it’s in the ocean it’s free game. Be creative!

Sound good? Here are the details:

Friday 13th of October

  • Most people arrive Friday evening
  • This year we will be running social activities so please arrive around 5pm if you’d like to join in:
    • Frisbee
    • Slackline
    • Soccer
    • AND MORE!!
    • Feel free to bring your own as well!
  • We will be helping to organise car pooling to get everyone there (If you have a car, make sure you let us know when you sign up how many people you can take and where from!). The car-pooling spreadsheet will be released after everyone has been approved
  • Everyone cooks their own dinner Friday evening (we will provide dinner Saturday Night)

Saturday 14th of October

‼️ IMPORTANT NOTICE: This is the Indigenous Voice Referendum Day. You MUST PRE-VOTE BEFORE BOREE LOG!! More info further down ‼️

  • We split into smaller groups for various trips. These trips will leave early, so it’s best to drive up Friday night.
  • Once you have signed up to this main event, you will be able to sign up to individual Saturday and Sunday trips (More details below)
  • Go on an epic hike, climb, canyon, etc with your group. This is the perfect opportunity to try a sport you’ve always wanted to.
  • Everyone comes back to the campground in the evening
  • DINNER AND PARTY!!!
  • We will be providing dinner, there will be a best-dressed prize for our NAUTICAL NONSENSE theme!
  • PUNCH OF PUNISHMENT – nominate your friends who have done something silly, stupid or slightly irresponsible on outdoor trips
  • BYO Alcohol if you want drinks

Sunday 15th of October

  • Wake up, pack up and have breakfast (self-provided)
  • Same as Saturday, split off into smaller groups for another day of fun trips
  • Each trip will be heading straight back to Sydney that afternoon, no coming back to the campground, so don’t leave anything

How do I sign up:

  1. Log onto the website and request to sign up to this main event. Main event signups open Monday, 2nd of October, at 7am!
  2. WAIT FOR APPROVAL! All main event approvals will be done by Thursday the 5th of October
  3. In your Signup request, make sure to tell us if you have a car, how many people you can take and where from, and any dietary requirements (people with cars get preference in signups)
  4. Once you have been approved to the main event, request to sign up to ONE Saturday trip and ONE Sunday trip only. Infomation on individual day trips will be released on Friday October 6th 8am. Signups for these will open Sunday October 8th at 9am! Get in quick
  5. Individual Trip signups will be approved by Wednesday October 11th at 10am
  6. Organise car pooling via the shared Google sheet (to be linked once attendees are confirmed) – find someone driving from near you and message them if they have a spot for you. Fill out the Google sheet once you have a spot
  7. Go shopping for the gear the club does not provide (more details on this below, including tents, sleeping bags, mats, drinking water, food, head torches etc)
  8. Get excited ‘cos you’re about to go away for the best weekend!

What if I just want to come and camp, but not go on trips

This is totally alright, just let us know in your signup request that you are only coming to camp. Note, you probably can’t change your mind about this when you get to Boree Log because all the individual trips will be full by then!

PRE-VOTING! Compulsory for Australian Citizens!!

Voting is compulsory for Australian citizens aged 18 years or older. If you do not vote and don’t have a valid and sufficient reason, you may be fined.

Unfortunately, Boree Log this term has lined up with the Indigenous Voice Referendum date on October 14th. This means that all attendees who are Australian Citizens MUST PRE-VOTE before the weekend.

Hundreds of early voting centres will progressively open and be available over the two weeks before voting day. In NSW, early voting will begin Tuesday October 3rd.

Please use this site to find a polling location, and go in and vote as normal. It is the same process as you would have gone through on the Referendum day.

Otherwise you can apply for a postal vote.

If you have any concerns, feel free to reach out to me, Amelia Vasiliou, on messenger or any of the exec.

What do I need to bring! (IMPORTANT)

  • Food and Water – There is drinking water at the campground but please bring some from home and ensure you have a water container that can carry at least 2L for your day trips! A hundred people lining up for water isn’t ideal. We will only be providing dinner on Saturday night. There is also no power so bring a camping cooker or food that doesn’t need to be cooked
  • Tent – If you have your own tent, please bring it. The club has a very limited number of tents that can be borrowed from the gear cupboard, these are first-come-first-served.
  • Sleeping Bag and Sleeping Mat – You need to bring your own as it may be chilly, and a yoga mat/blanket might not be a fun night’s sleep for you
  • WARM CLOTHES – We’re hoping for warm weather and clear skies, please be prepared for cold nights and rain if need be!
  • All Technical Equipment (e.g. harnesses, rope, helmets) will be provided by the club at BOREE LOG for those who don’t have their own. You do not borrow this gear from the gear cupboard beforehand.
  • If you are canyoning, bring your own wetsuit if you have one (though the club does have ones that can be borrowed), also bring thermals as it will be particularly cold in canyons!
  • Check this packing list if you are unsure what else to bring.
  • Personal items (e.g. toiletries, face mask, head torches, rain jackets, day pack, personal first aid kits, SUNSCREEN, cutlery, plate/bowl, water bottle, alcohol for Saturday night if you want)
  • If you’ve read all the info up to here, thank you. Let us know your favourite island you’ve been to or would love to visit in your signup comment (it just might improve your preference for getting a spot cause we know you’ve actually read the info)

Other Frequently Asked questions:

  • Q: Can I bring a hairdryer/microwave?
    • A: No, we have no power at the campground. And yes we have been asked this before
  • Q: Are there any toilet facilities?
    • A: There are drop toilets. No running water. Please bring toilet paper!
  • For more questions like this, and actual answers too, see the FAQ

Cost:

  • Apart from petrol, this trip is free for all club members. Petrol costs will be split per car, expect approx. $10 per person each way.
  • There are no gear hire fees as this is a club event

Super keen to see everyone there! Get excited!!!
