Water dragon (or Kelvinator canyon) is a very impressive canyon with lots of beautiful, dark restrictions! There are a couple of down climbs and interesting abseil points so I’m restricting this canyon to people who are comfortable with abseiling. If you’re not sure if this trip is suitable for you send me a FB message or see me at The Ledge on Thursday.
WHAT TO BRING:
- SHOES – note that these shoes are going to get wet and dirty. I recommend buying a pair of cheap volleys or other light shoes. I DON’T recommend hiking shoes.
- DRY BAG – Anything you take into the canyon is probably going to get wet. If you want snacks or dry clothes I suggest investing in a dry bag. You can get one for $10 or something from any outdoors store. FURTHERMORE, there is a long swim along the wollangambe to the exit track, so dry bags will help you float and take the stress off swimming.
- SNACKS + LUNCH – Food is so important in canyons. It keeps your energy levels up and also can keep you warm! I recommend muesli bars, nuts, fruit, chocolate and whatever lunch that’s going to keep you happy and full!
- CLOTHES – Warm socks and a pair of daggy shorts are essential, again these will get wet and dirty. The swim at the end of the canyon will potentially be quite cold. If you feel the cold I recommend wearing thermals under your wetsuit or bringing a beanie.
- HEAD TORCH
- BAG – To put everything above in! The lighter the bag the better. It will get wet and heavy
