Blue lake ice climbing – cancelled due to weather :'(

Thanks to the introduction of the UNSWOC beanie grant, snow and ice have made a come back to the club – get excited!! It is compulsory that you have attended an intro to snow and ice workshop or contacted me separately in order to attend this trip.

The plan is drive down on Friday morning, walk to Blue Lake and set up camp. We’ll spend Saturday doing some ice climbing and then get an early night ready for more ice climbing on Sunday. We’ll then walk out in the arvo on Sunday and drive back to Sydney on Sunday evening.

Previous snow experience is preferred and it is beneficial if you are comfortable lead climbing outdoors. Please detail any snow, hiking, climbing, skiing or general outdoors experience in the comments 🙂

You will NEED the following equipment for the trip:

• Mountaineering boots/crampon compatible touring boots**
• Snow shoes/skis**
• Warm socks
• Gaitors
• Hiking pants
• Waterproof over-trousers
• Thermal leggings
• Thermal top
• Long sleeve, breathable top
• Warm fleece
• Belay jacket or equivalent
• Waterproof jacket
• Sunglasses (min cat. 3)
• Buff/balaclava
• Beanie
• Thick, waterproof gloves
• Liner gloves
• Lip balm
• Sunscreen
• Harness***
• Helmet***
• ATC and locking biner***
• 4 season tent, with snow pegs*
• Sleeping bag rated for negative temperatures
• Sleeping bag liner
• Warm sleeping mat or foam sleeping mat AND inflatable sleeping mat
• Stove
• Food for the weekend
• Hand sanitizer
• Head torch
• Poo bag
• Personal toiletries/first aid kit
• Pack to carry all of the above (as well as the shared gear not listed here such as ropes*, trad rad*, ice screws*, ice tools*, snow shovels*)

*Club has a limited supply, the trip leaders will bring everything there is and we’ll have to share among everyone
