Hey there Crushers,
We (Gabe and Marley) will be running a super-duper-chill-as intermediate/SUPER PRO MAX sport climbing trip on Sunday (the 22nd) to Fort Rock in the Medlow Bath area in anticipation of escaping the hoards of climbers in the mountains. The link to this crag if u want to geez is here: https://www.thecrag.com/en/climbing/australia/blue-mountains/blackheath-area/area/12012739
Fort Rock is a pretty chill sport crag with only mid grade sport climbs 20 – 23. . We will likely set up a few topropes on any free/interesting climbs (if intermediate), and maybe get those who are keen to lead the routes too.ย If you want to have a geez at the crag before signing up, have a look here (you might find something youโre stoked to try).
Attendees will need the following:
Skills: Lead experience is pretty ideal, as is outdoor experience. ย We understand that not everyone will be keen to lead their hardest grade while hungover so we will fang up some of the routes to set up toppies if need be.
Gear: We will organise this at camp before setting off.
Bare minimum: A harness, climbing shoes, and a helmet (a must). If you do not have these, we will sort it out at camp.
Please bring if you have: Personal anchor device (PAS), a belay device (ATC or Gri Gri), Cords or Sling, Carabiners, Quickdraws
We will grab ropes, quickdraws, quads etc, from the gear tarp of glory.
Clothing: Knowing that all of you are of course experienced outdoors adventurers I am sure you have looked at the weather for the weekend BEFORE actually getting up there, but if the weather is good it will likely get a bit hottttt. ย The crag gets mid-arvo sun so we will ideally have an early start and get TFO by 4ish for a good time at the pub (BEEERZ. ย You should definitely bring warm weather clothing, but maybe a jumper or wind breaker in case the weather decides to be mean to us. If itโs raining, we probably will end up all crying (don’t worry the rain will hide this so you won’t get embarrassed) and head to Gateway crag or some other rain protected shpot (depending on the grade average of our attendeees).
Plz answer the following question in the trip request comment: What is your favourite place in Australia youโve been to?
Food: Bring whatever you want for lunch and afternoon tea, as we will be spending the day at the crag (our advice is to bring something simple and easy, and also bring sugary stuff for when climbing).
Water: Bring a minimum of 2L.
If this trip floats your boat, then feel free to request to join. Feel free to send us a pm on Facebook (Gabe Dickinson or Marley Shaw-McHenry) with any questions or just to say hello and let us know youโre keen (and will probs make us more inclined to have you come).
