Hi all!

Daniel, Emily and I (Maddi) are running a trip this Sunday to Bell Creek Canyon at Mt Wilson. Despite this canyon having no abseils, it will be a very long day (~10 hours), with lots of long, cold swims, scrambling and sliding around on wet rocks.

Participants need to be competent swimmers, good at handling cold water, and prepared (mentally) for some long walks in and out of the canyon.

Info about the canyon can be found here!

You will need:

  • To be keen and ready for a long/cold day
  • A headtorch
  • A dry bag
  • A backpack that can get wet to fit all your gear
  • Wetsuit (5mm HIGHLY recommended)
  • Thermals to wear under your wetsuit (optional but highly recommended for extra toastiness)
  • Boardshorts to wear over your wetsuit (compulsory for club wetsuits)
  • Rain jacket
  • Spare thermals to keep dry
  • Wool or neoprene socks
  • Shoes with grip
  • Helmet
  • An emergency blanket (can be bought from the gear cupboard – $5)
  • Any personal medication
  • Food and water (at least 1.5L)

DO NOT BRING COTTON

If you have any questions give Daniel Gilbert, Emily Dowling or Maddi Dunster a message on Facebook.

Also please tell us if you have a car (and how many seats), some of your canyoning experience, as well as the coldest water you’ve ever experienced in the comments so we know you’ve read this far!
