Hey all!
Come join Nadav and I at Coinslot Canyon at the Capertee Valley this weekend if you’re keen to freeze your socks off for some fantastic abseiling and views at the second widest canyon in the world (second to the Grand Canyon)!
Behold, the Coinslot!:
As Capertee Valley is quite a bit of a drive, the plan is to camp at Coorongooba campground on Saturday night and heading off to the canyon Sunday morning, returning Sunday night. This is a beginner / intermediate trip – expect some thigh deep wading in the canyon (it will be cold!), and perhaps some bush-bashing as well 🙃.
What you need:
- harness*
- helmet*
- Prusik + biner*
- safety sling + biner*
- Figure 8 device (or similar) + biner*
- Emergency blanket* (compulsory for all club canyons, can be bought from the gear cupboard for $5)
- Backpack
- headtorch (if you don’t have a head torch, bring at least some kind of torch – it gets dark early these days!)
- drybag* (this is important for spare clothes and your food)!
- sneakers that can get trashed
- Woollen/synthetic socks
- Headtorch
- Thermals and warm clothes to wear that can get wet (no cotton!)
- spare set of thermals to carry in your drybag (for emergencies)
- Raincoat / windbreaker
- Breakfast, lunch and snacks!
- at least 2l of water
- dry clothes and shoes for the car ride back
- No cotton (it gets very cold when wet)
- Camping Gear
- tent*
- sleeping bag*
- sleeping mat*
- dinner
- whatever else you like to bring camping
- Personal tropical Queensland weather system 😀
