Heya!
On the Sunday of BOREE LOG, Brendan and I will be running another canyoning trip through the Lower Williams River. It’s a perfect canyon for beginners with a fun series of swims, slides and jumps.
The canyon is 2-2.5 hours away by car, so on top of having all your gear sorted you will also need the willingness to get up after the party on Saturday night. Don’t worry, it’ll be well worth it!
We’ll aim to leave by 8am, take about 6 hours to go through the canyon and then head back to Sydney together. We won’t be returning back to the campsite, so make sure you pack all your stuff!
What you will need:
- Wetsuit and swimmers: You can borrow a wetsuit from a friend, maybe someone who is canyoning on Saturday but not Sunday? borrow from the club, although there will be a limited supply, or check out second hand stores and gumtree
- Enclosed shoes with grip that you don’t mind getting wet e.g. volleys or old joggers. Places like target and bigw sell volleys for around $20 or $10 if you have kid sized feet 🙂 Get yourself some woollen socks as well if you don’t have any as anything made from cotton will cause you to freeze
- Backpack and dry bag: Bring a backpack that you don’t mind getting wet, and one that can also hold your wetsuit, 1.5L of water, lunch/snacks and some dry clothes. A dry bag will keep things like your lunch and clothes dry throughout the canyon. Some people might have a large enough dry bag to fit your stuff, but make sure you ask first, or alternatively lots of heavy duty wrapped inside each other will do the trick
- Helmet & torch: A climbing or bike helmet will do and a preferably a head torch for the off chance that we finish after dark
- Water, snacks and lunch
- Dry clothes: To change into after the canyon. You can also keep thermals or a warm jacket in your dry bag to change into for the hike out
Cheers 🙂
