Beginners Canyoning – Juggler’s Canyon [postponed]

Hey everyone! This Sunday Cornellius and I (Leo) will be running a canyoning trip down Juggler’s Canyon! (track notes: here, rope wiki: here) Current plan’s to meet at -33.664359, 150.324937 (parking spot along old Point Pilcher road) around 10am before heading off.

This is a fun, fairly dry and beginner friendly canyon, so this trip’s open to anyone regardless of skill level as long as you’re keen and reasonably fit! It’s a very pretty canyon, with some fun overhanging abseils so you’re pretty much guaranteed a good day out. While you won’t have to swim, there’s still a chance you’ll get wet, so bear that in mind – to avoid being sad and soggy, I’d recommend bringing some thermals, something warm to wear on top and a rain jacket, and bringing a dry change of clothes to keep in the car for the way home is always nice to come back to if you do fall in too, just please avoid wearing cotton into the canyon- it gets pretty cold when wet. 

For the signups, chuck your canyoning, outdoors and abseiling experience into the comments, as well as if you have a car with spots, and what food you’re gonna feed us to bribe your way onto this trip with (we’re corrupt). If you haven’t abseiled before, no problem, me and Cornellius are happy to show you the ropes at the ledge this Thursday or in the canyon.

Gear:

• Harness*
• Figure 8 descender & carabiner*
• Safety sling & carabiner*
• At least 2L water
• Food: lunch, snacks.
• Emergency blanket (can be bought from the gear cupboard for $5)
• Helmet*
• Enclosed Shoes (Volleys or old sneakers are good options, but really you just want something with good grip that can get wet/slightly trashed)
• Woollen socks
• Backpack (at least 25L, we may give you some group gear to carry)
• Headtorch
• Thermals
• Rain jacket
