With the weather looking good for this weekend it’s time to get out for a bushwalk!
The plan to hike a portion of the six foot track. We’ll head up to Katoomba early Saturday morning and hike to Cox River Campsite, camp overnight before we head back in the morning. If you’re feeling up to it we can go a little further?
What to bring:
- Water – You’ll need water for the first day at least 3-4L, for the second day we can boil or purify water from the rainwater tank.
- Sunscreen – Even if overcast you can easily get sunburned.
- Hat – Should be wide brimmed or a bucket hat to protect your ears and neck.
- Food – You will need to prepare food for breakfast, two lunches and dinner (bring a micro stove if you want hot food, think quick and easy meals like oats, cereal, muesli, sandwiches, couscous packets). Be aware of garbage as well. Avoid canned food as its heavy and bulky. Bring some lightweight snacks for the hike like trail mix, chocolate, muesli bars.
- Clothes – Make sure you’ve got comfortable shoes like joggers or hiking shoes. They’ll get dirty or wet. Bring light clothes because you’ll get hot while you hike (e.g. long lightweight pants, breathable shirt), BUT you MUST BRING warm clothes and a rain jacket, temperatures get just below 0 degrees at night.
- Equipment – (most stuff can be borrowed from UNSWOC or you can share) You will need tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, backpack for hiking (20-40L), micro stove, small pots, water bottles. Optional: hiking poles, gaiters, compass, GPS.
- Opal Card – Unless someone’s driving you’ll need one to get up to the mountains.
Message me Cameron Harkins on fb if you have questions. Please include whether you are able to drive and if you have a car available in your booking.
