Beginner/Intermediate Sport Climbing at Mount York

Hey all!

This Sunday, Mali, Margot, Justin and I will be running a nice big beginner/intermediate sport climbing trip to Mount York, hoping to get more people out after the Easter long weekend. We will be looking to gather a bunch of keen beans and split off into smaller groups heading to different areas, depending on what the participants are hoping to get out of this day, whether it be top-roping, practicing leading some easier climbs or learning more skills such as anchor building. eg. We can have some people who are keen to learn to lead and clean routes at the Soft Parade and those more keen to lead/top-rope only at Mezzaluna. This trip will be beginner friendly as we can just set up top-ropes for you to enjoy, or even if you’ve got the skills and just wanna come hang, we’d love that too 😀

You will need to bring:

Climbing gear:

• Harness*
• Climbing Shoes*
• Helmet*
• Belay device and locking carabiner*
• Safety sling and locking carabiner * (if you want to learn to clean)
• Chalk Bag (optional but recommended if you have sweaty tips)

Other:

• At least 2L of water
• Food and snacks for the day
• Sunscreen
• Personal medicines (epipen, asthma puffer, etc.,)
• Comfortable clothes to climb in
• Enclosed comfortable shoes for the approach
• A head torch (just incase we are too psyched to leave before dark…)

(*) – Can be borrowed from the gear shed Thursday 5:30-6:30pm, hire is free for club trips but remember to bring cash for a deposit!
