Beginner/Intermediate Mountain Bike Trip – The Oaks Trail

Hi Everyone!

Zee and Bennett will be running a mountain bike trip to the Oaks Trail in the lower Blue Mountains this Sunday.

The plan is to meet at Glenbrook station at 8:30am and catch the train up to Woodford. From there we’ll be riding the 17km Oaks Fire trail back down the Blue Mountains. At the end of the fire trail there will be 7km of intermediate difficulty single track to enjoy on the way back down to Glenbrook. Without any major hiccups we should be back at Glenbrook station in the early afternoon. The trail is mostly downhill but does have a few short climbs and is about 24km in total.

Whilst some prior mountain biking experience will help, the Oaks Trail is a great place for beginners who want to give the sport a first try. Feel free to message us on facebook if you have any questions about this.

What you’ll need:

• A mountain bike – PLEASE check that your bike is working BEFORE you arrive on Sunday’s trip.
  • Especially important on this trip because we don’t want to miss the 9:27 train, next one is an hour later, because we are busy fixing someone’s bike.
  • At a minimum your bike must have front suspension and tires suitable for off road riding. If you have questions about whether your bike is suitable send Zee or Bennett a message.
  • Unfortunately, the club does not have mountain bikes for use. Ask a friend if you can borrow theirs if if you’re really keen to come along.
• A bicycle helmet – not a rock climbing helmet 🙂
• Food – Enough snacks to get you through a few hours of riding till the afternoon
• Water – Enough water to keep you hydrated, especially if it’s a warm day
• Spares – Always good to carry some basic spares for your bike, e.g. tube, pump, patch kit.
• A keen attitude for a great ride

Note: this trip is weather dependent so we’ll be keeping an eye on rain and the forecast throughout the week. Also, the last signup spot is for a waiting list only, not an actual spot.
