Tie up those hiking boots and load up that pack, it’s the first hike of the semester!

We will take you on an adventure through the very wild Morton National Park. This walk is probably my favourite overnighter on mainland Australia. We will leave early on Saturday, drive 3h to the start of the walk. Then, the walk goes through some scrubbby bush, on top of a mountain, and onto a plateau with beautiful sunset views. We will camp on the prairies just below the plateau, then the next day wander along a gurgling river and if it’s hot swim in some pristine cascades. Expect a late return to Sydney on Sunday night.

Depature: 7 am from UNSW on Saturday

Return: Late on Sunday

Required experience: None.

Required Gear:

  • pack
  • tent
  • sleeping bag + mat
  • food for 2 days
  • water – carry all you need with you (at least 5-6 L)
  • hat + sunscreen
  • rain jacket
  • hiking/running shoes
  • warm jacket

Transport: We need more drivers, so let me know if you can drive. The plan is to leave from UNSW or thereabouts. Petrol costs will be split between all (~$10 each).

Have a look at the tracknotes if you want more info! http://bushwalkingnsw.com/walk.php?nid=817

When you have successfully registered, I will add you to a group chat on facebook for us to coordinate transport. If your name on fb is different to your account on here please let me know (Fb: Mac Labine-Romain)!!

NOTE: the forecast is not ideal at this stage, we will make the call on friday arvo if we will go or not.
