You!

Hello!

The final rogaine of the year is coming up in a few weeks, and it would be great to see some UNSWOC faces there ๐Ÿ˜

What is a rogaine?
Essentially a treasure hunt in the bush! Youโ€™ll get to put your navigation skills to the test, using only a map and compass to find marked locations to score points. Youโ€™ve only got 6 hours though, so donโ€™t be back late!
If youโ€™ve never tried rogaining before, this is a great first event! Itโ€™s relatively short and you arenโ€™t too far from civilization, but combines the traditional rogaine environment (the bush) with some urban areas!
More details here: What is Rogaining?.

  • When? 10am to 4pm, Sunday 2nd November
  • Where? Anzac Oval, Engadine – 1 hour south of UNSW (can take the train down!)
  • How much? $32 for a student concession, else $45.
  • Signups close?ย Thursday 16th October (so we can organise teams)

Amazing โ€“ how do I sign up?

The purpose of creating an UNSWOC event is to try and encourage as many UNSWOCerโ€™s to get involved as possible! It means we can help club members find a team and perhaps even have some friendly intra-club competition ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sign up to this event if youโ€™re keen and Iโ€™ll figure out the teams from there. Once the teams have be sorted, youโ€™ll be responsible for signing up to theย official event.

In the comments, please mention:

  • If you have done a Rogaine before
  • How competitive are you?
  • How much distance you are planning on walking (20km is a healthy goal for your first time)
    • Note: Teams can be on the course for as long or as little as they wish but must return by the 6 hour mark.
  • Your bushwalking experience

A well-appointed Hash House* awaits you at Engadineโ€™s spacious Anzac Oval where there will be something for everyone. Whether youโ€™d like a gentle introduction to the extensive bushland via long residential spurs, or prefer to plunge right in, there are a multitude of course planning options for your puzzle-hungry brain.

Step back in time and imagine a pre-European existence in the midst of long gentle valleys, steep hillsides, rarely travelled gullies, and gravity-confirming creeks looking for the mysteriously named Woronora River. Navigate the extensive track network, remembering the flora and fauna are your friends, and finding your way around sandstone amongst eucalypts. Cockatoos, Gymea lilies, kookaburras, grass-trees, water dragons, tree ferns, wallabies, and koalas will all be possible to spot (in that order of likelihood).

* The Hash House is the starting point for the Rogaine.
