This Saturday (2nd of November) Katie and I (Jayden) will be running a First Aid Simulation Day for club members and trip leaders at Centennial Park. The plan is to go ahead regardless of weather as we run trips in all weather.

We are aiming to share, retain and regain First Aid and Situational Management skills. Super keen for those who have completed their Wilderness or Remote Area First Aid to come along; even if you don’t have these qualifications, you are welcome to come and learn with the rest of us! (We will always have people on trips who have different skillsets so it’s useful to have similar situations here, we also need actors so you may have some fun and make our lives hard :))

We will try and do a fair few simulations with gear we would usually take on trips, the more realistic the better for this. To that end, bring along your First Aid Kits (We won’t use them but its good to know what’s there) and other gear you would take on your primary sport (Rope, Pack, Hiking Poles, etc). That way we will have stuff for all sports and can practise realistic responses. Please include in your comment what gear you will bring.

What ELSE to bring:

  • Bring OLD first aid supplies from home that might be out of date or going a bit bad so bolster our supply for the simulations.
  • Bring Clothing that can get wrecked and dirty, we will likely use tomato sauce as fake blood.
  • Food and Water for you. Further details to be provided closer to the time.

We don’t know all the ways people have been or can be injured in all sports, as such please comment a scenario you think we should run.

If your first aid qual is not on your profile (you should fix this) or is not a common one, mention it in the comments.

We are very open to suggestions so please reach out to Katie or myself if you have any ideas. Anyone with more advanced training is highly encouraged to contribute (REGARDLESS of first aid training or club membership status), I.E. Med student/Doctor/Nurse, First Responder, Defence, Guide etc to help, offer knowledge and experience in the lead up and on the day.
