Daniel, Bennet and I (Margot) will be running a trip on Saturday for Boree Log to do Upper Bowens South Canyon.

The canyon itself is a beauty, but also moderately long, so this might be a long day – perhaps 8-10hrs in the canyon. Therefore, this is an intermediate trip, and you should have some canyoning, abseiling or at least outdoor climbing rope experience if you are going to sign up.  If you don’t have this experience, but you back yourself as a tough cookie, message me on facebook and we can discuss.
You can check out more of the canyon’s details here: https://ozultimate.com/canyoning/track_notes/bowens_creek_south.html

You will need:

  • To be keen and ready for a longish day
  • A headtorch
  • A dry bag*
  • A backpack to fit all your gear and can get wet*
  • Wetsuit (preferably 5mm)*
  • Rain jacket
  • Thermals
  • Wool socks
  • Shoes with grip
  • Helmet*
  • Harness*
  • Descender (preferably an 8 style)*
  • Personal safety*
  • Locking Carabiner*
  • An emergency blanket (can be bought from the gear cupboard – $5)
  • Food and water

*Can be borrowed from the club supplies but if you have your own bring it as supplies may be limited

You need to be approved for the main Boree Log event to attend these trips. Please sign up for only ONE trip per day. If you get rejected you can then sign up for another trip, this just makes it easier for volunteer trip leaders. Please be aware that as the weather is unpredictable, trip leaders may need to alter trips accordingly

Please include in the comments what you have car wise, why you’re keen for this trip, and your previous canyoning experience. To let me know you have read this far let me know what is the maximum depth of water you would be willing to fight a shark in (since if its shallow enough the shark would just suffocate).

Keen for a great day canyoning with you all!

*Thank you Mali, the original source I pillaged significant segments of this trip description from, it has lived a long and stored life as two of my Boree log trip descriptions now and I hope to one day run this trip
