Hello all!
Jonah and I are happy to announce the long-awaited INTRODUCTION TO CAVING SKILLS NIGHT.
This is the night to attend if you even think you might be interested in caving (which basically has all the coolest parts of all the other rock sports and none of the downsides), or if you’ve already been but want to learn or refresh some techniques. Caving involves exploring caves (!!) which are cool holes in the ground consisting of 3D labyrinths of tunnels and caverns and sick decorations like stalactites and stalagmites and shawls and flowstones. It often involves mud and crawling and climbing around and abseiling and jumarring.
This beginner-intermediate friendly skills session will cover a few things about what to expect caving, some of the ethics and things to look out for, and then will dive into a practical on the technical rope work aspects. This will include abseiling and cave ladders, then get into jumarring (rope ascending). You will have the opportunity to test out all different types of cave ascending and descending in a safe and educational environment before being thrown into the bottom of a cave!
The Intro to Caving will be held at 6pm on Tuesday the 20th of June. It will be at the Ledge, so we can go for pizzas and beer afterwards at the Flodge.
Hope to see you there!
