Jeffrey and I (Tad) are leading a beginner canyoning trip in the Blue Mountains this Sunday [exact canyon to be confirmed soon].
- You MUST know how to swim!
- Preferably you have abseiled before, and you will not panic when it comes time to trust the rope and go over the edge
- Preference will be given if you are able to drive (and own a car)
Gear/equipment that you will need:
- Canyoning gear: a harness, helmet, wetsuit, ATC belay device, carabiner (all these items can be borrowed from the club but please comment if you have your own).
- A backpack that will get wet with a DRY BAG inside that will not get wet (to keep your clothes dry while you wear the wetsuit, the club has some dry bags but it’s better if you bring your own: $10-$20 from Decathlon or Anaconda) [please bring ziplock bags for your electronics in case the dry bag is punctured].
- A headtorch, comfortable enclosed shoes with good grip [I recommend $8 aqua shoes from BigW or Dunlop Volleys], lunch, 2L of water, swimmers, WOOLLEN socks (no cotton!!), and a keen sense of adventure!
Please comment what gear you will need to borrow from the club and I will be able to collect it for the whole group myself. If you need a wetsuit, please tell me what size (Xsmall, small, medium, large, x-large). Also please comment what your favourite chocolate bar is.
See you there,
Tad
