- What? First Aid Practical Workshop
- When? Wednesday the 15th, from 6 pm to 8 pm
- Where? UNSW Main Library, Level 4, Room 412
The UNSWOC trip leaders recently participated in a Remote Area First Aid Course to learn what to do in an outdoors emergency. No matter how often you go outdoors, how hard you climb, or how much you love hiking, being outdoors in remote areas with little medical supplies is a risk, and things can go very very badly. To avoid this, come to our workshop!
QUESTION: Your mate falls unconscious during a hike. There is blood on his ankle. What do you do?
A: Activate your PLB (What’s a PLB? Are you even carrying one?)
B: Oh my god, someone start CPR! (…you’ve watched too many movies…or is it correct?)
C: Put your gloves on, clean the wound, and use a bandage. He’ll recover (hold on, did we check for breathing?!?)
D: Let’s be honest, I’m not too sure what to do –> Come to this workshop, it may save someone’s life.
No previous experience required. Start is 6 pm sharp, the workshop will run for 2 hr, and we will practice how to wrap ankles, snake bites, bee stings, how to treat heat or cold shocks, asthma attacks, broken arms, etc. If you have any question, message me on facebook 🙂
Best, Maria
