Hey everyone, I’ll be heading to Butterbox Canyon this Sunday 28th February. This is a high-quality canyon overlooking the Grose Valley. The highlight is near the end, where you abseil down a deep slot in 2 pitches. If people like, we can also do a crash-course on inspecting and building anchors. Or if we finish early, and if people are feeling energetic, we can do another canyon on the way back to Sydney (e.g. Fortress, Arethusa).
This is an advanced trip. We will be a small and fast moving group (3-6 people, pending transport). Prior canyoning/abseiling experience is essential. There is an exposed rock climbing exit (or a very long scrub bash across the Grose). If I haven’t canyoned with you before, shoot me a message (in the comments box when you sign up, or find me on facebook) and let me know how much experience you have.
Pack all the usual canyoning gear, including wetsuit, harness, helmet, head torch. You will need a personal anchor system (e.g. 60cm nylon sling and carabiner). Keep some free space in your bag to help carry ropes. I will organise the group equipment (ropes, PLB, etc).
We’ll meet at 8:30 am at Leura Station then drive up the fire trail together. So we should start the canyon between 9:00 am and 9:30 am. We can sort out transport closer to the day. Let me know if you are willing to drive.
If you have any questions feel free to message me!
