Hey guys,
We will be leading a group through Upper Williams river on the Sunday of Boree Log. Disclaimer: we have NEVER DONE this part of the canyon before – thus, please only join this trip if you have reasonable canyoning experience (Grand & Empress don’t count). You should be comfortable with river walking, rock scrambling, abseiling, etc.You will need to have ALL your own gear for this canyon – if you do not have all of the gear listed below, try to borrow from a friend as it is unlikely you will be able to borrow from the club (Beginners trips get priority for gear). Please ensure you bring: shoes with good grip (eg. volleys), wetsuit, backpack, drybag, lunch / snacks, water bottle, helmet, headlight torch, emergency blanket, thermals or warm jacket, plus a change of clothes to leave in the car. This part of the canyon is not supposed to have any abseils but we will be bringing one harness setup just in case.As we do not know this canyon, we cannot acurately estimate how long the trip will take. We will however be aiming to leave camp (all gear, including tents, packed up) at 7AM. This is due to the 2hr drive to the start of the canyon, plus approximately 3hr walk in. We know it may be difficult for some people to get up early after party night of Boree log so please bear this in mind when signing up. If you are not ready to leave around 7am, you may be left behind.
We know very little about this canyon – practically all our knowledge is derived from a few conversations with canyoning veterans and this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCfCdfq0Gfw
We will be aiming to cut in below the falls to avoid having to carry long ropes / abseil gear. We will also not be taking the exact route described at the beginning of the video (avoiding Selby Alley hut & Kungie Gully).
