Hey friends,
Peta and I (Pat) will be leading a beginner sport climbing trip this Saturday 9/3 to Bell Supercrag – about 2 hours west of the city. You can info about the crag here – we’ll likely be heading to Duck Wall to try and stay dry in the rain.
No climbing experience is required, as we’ll set up climbs for you to toprope or second. We can adjust the trip based on what the general vibe is – you can just chill out and try some climbs on toprope, but if you want to learn/practise more skills we’re more than happy to teach you! It’ll be a good chance to learn how to lead climb and belay, clean anchors, tie knots and any other relevant climbing skills, as well as any irrelevant climbing skills.
We’ll be meeting at the crag carpark at 10am (location here) and leaving around 6pm.
What to bring:
- Water – at least 2L
- Food – lunch and snacks
- Helmet*
- Harness*
- Belay device and carabiner*
- Climbing shoes* (optional but highly recommended)
- Rainjacket and any other wet weather gear – there’s a non-insignificant chance we get caught out in the rain
- Comfortable shoes to hike in – it’s a 30-45 min (mostly pleasant) hike to get to the crag
- Sunscreen
* These items can be borrowed from the gear cupboard on Thursday night!
If you’re interested, please sign up with a comment that includes: any climbing experience you have, whether you have a car and how many spare seats you’d have, and the most colourful thing you’ve seen in the last week. Once approved, we’ll add you to a group chat to give any other required info and organise carpooling – please make sure that your facebook profile link is either in your account or added to your comment to make our job easier here!
If you’ve got any questions or concerns, feel free to message Peta or I on Facebook.
See you there!
