We’ll be running a trip through Fortress canyon on Sunday of Boree Log. It is a nice beginners canyon with a couple of down-climbs and awesome water jumps (one of 6 metres!). Trip will probably take about 4 hours car-to-car and we’ll be leaving camp around 8am Sunday.
YOU WILL REQUIRE:
1. A WETSUIT AND SWIMMERS – the water is too cold to swim without a wetsuit. You can buy cheap wetsuits second hand from Vinnies and other second hand stores.
2. ENCLOSED SHOES WITH GOOD TRACTION such as sandshoes or volleys – No flip flops, no sandals or crocs. You can buy volleys from Big W for $20. Wear warm woollen socks too.
3. BACKPACK and DRY BAG – that can fit a wetsuit, lunch/snacks, sunscreen, and a warm jacket. This bag will get wet. This canyon requires several jumps and slides, so it is NOT possible to carry items in your hands. You will also need a dry bag inside your backpack to keep your lunch and other items dry. If you do not have a dry bag, you can bring at least 4 heavy duty garbage bags (the thickest possible bags you can buy).
4. HELMET – climbing or bicycle helmet, there are a number of jumps and slides in this canyon, a helmet will be required to attend this trip.
5. TORCH – preferably a head torch. We should be out well before dark – but you never know and we should be prepared in case the trip takes longer than expected.
