Hello fellow outdoor enthusiasts,

are you looking for 2 minute abs? Well you’ve come to the wrong place because this is an overnight hiking/camping trip with UNSWOC.

Plan:

Meet on Friday night after work/uni.

Drive up together to Watagans National Park (2 hours North). [You could come up on Saturday morning super early independently but you will need a car]

Camp at Watagans HQ

Hike to Heatons Gap on this trail. We will do a car shuffle to drive back to camp. http://www.wildwalks.com/bushwalking-and-hiking-in-nsw/watagans/watagan-headquarters-to-heaton-lookout.html

Chill out and general explore of the local area before we drive back to Sydney together, stopping for dinner on the way.

What to bring:

  1. Water! – Apparently the water tank has been vandalised so we must each bring at least 4-5L of water (depending on if you need some for cooking). You’ll need to be able to carry 2L on the hike.
  2. Sunscreen! – Australian sun is brutal. Even if overcast you can easily get sunburned.
  3. Hat – Should be wide brimmed or a bucket hat to protect your ears and neck.
  4. Food – Bring something to eat on Friday night (we may arrive late so sandwich would be best). You will need to prepare food for breakfast and lunch (bring a micro stove if you want hot food, think quick and easy meals like oats, cereal, muesli, sandwiches, couscous packets). Be aware of garbage as well. Avoid canned food as its heavy and bulky. Bring some lightweight snacks for the hike like trail mix, chocolate, muesli bars.
  5. Clothes – Be logical. Wear comfortable shoes like joggers or hiking shoes. They will get dirty or wet. Bring light clothes because you’ll get hot while you hike (e.g. long lightweight pants, breathable shirt), BUT you MUST BRING a rainjacket and warm clothes for temperatures close to 0 degrees at night.
  6. Equipment – (most stuff can be borrowed from UNSWOC or you can share) You will need tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, backpack for hiking (20-40L), micro stove, small pots, water bottles. Optional: hiking poles, gaiters, slackline (bring if you own one!), compass, GPS.
  7. Opal Card – Probably need one to get around
  8. Money? – for dinner on Saturday (can bring your own food if you prefer not to spend), for fuel costs of drivers.
  9. GOOD VIBES and tunes for the drive!

Message me Tad Karapetian on fb if you have questions. Please include whether you are able to drive and if you have a car available in your booking.
