Ahoy there!
Aidan and I will be doing a little exploratory training paddle to the Solitary Islands (just off of Coffs Harbour) and it’s a long shot but we’d love to have people join us! We have 2 spots available for any self-sufficient sea kayakers (club gear is available for use if you need anything), the trad climbing is optional.
The Plan:
- Leave Sydney early on the 31st of August and drive to Arrawarra. Kayak north for 13km to camp on the beach.
- On the 1st we will paddle to North West Rock (13km) and then down to North Solitary Island (2km). If it is possible to land we will camp there and sus out the potential climbing. Otherwise, we will return to the previous campsite (13km).
- On the 2nd we will paddle to North West Solitary Island (15km) for lunch and eat from our boats before paddling onward to South West Solitary Island (16km). We will attempt to land and camp there. If this is not possible we will paddle back to the car (12km).
- On the 3rd we will sus out the climbing potential on South West Solitary Island and attempt some climbing before paddling back to the car (12km).
- Drive home on the 4th.
You are welcome to use any of the club kayaking gear that you may require, but one of the two people signing up will need a car to transport your boats, the club has soft racks if you don’t have roof racks. It would be awesome to see some new faces, but this is not a beginner trip. Please comment with your kayaking experience, car status, seasickness remedies and whether or not you would be keen on some climbing.
