The UNSW Outdoors Club (UNSWOC) is a volunteer run social sporting club for people who like outdoor sports and activities. We offer an inexpensive way to get outside and see Australia while enjoying regular weekends of outdoor adventuring. The activities we like to do are Rock Climbing, Canyoning, Hiking, Caving, Mountain Biking, Rogaining, Whitewater Kayaking, Backcountry Skiing and many more.
Anyone can join the club, whether you're a beginner, experienced, at UNSW, or not a student at all. We are a very beginner friendly club with lots of beginner trips and training. The Club is funded by our membership fees and university grants, so this means that on Club Trips there are no event fees, no gear fees, and no guiding fees - our trips are free!
Terms and Conditions can be found here.
Becoming a member
Becoming a Full Member of UNSWOC has 3 steps:
- Creating an account on this website
- Paying the membership fee on unswoc.org
- Joining the club on Rubric
- Approve your membership here
Step 1 is necessary for you to be able to access the website, which is where you will join trips.
Step 2 the membership fee, covers you for the payment period (either 6-month or 1-year) from the date of payment. For example: if you pay a 1-year membership on 17 November 2025, your membership is valid until 17 November 2026.
Step 3 joining the club on Rubric, is necessary to confirm your membership. Rubric is the platform used by Arc Sport UNSW (our governing body), to manage memberships, university grants and insurance.
No membership on Rubric = no insurance = no joining trips.

Step 4 (important!) approve your Rubric membership at My Account – UNSW Outdoors Club. If the automatic form does not work, please contact the web officer.
Unfortunately, Rubric only supports calendar-year memberships, and not the rolling basis UNSWOC uses. Therefore, every January, you must update your membership on Rubric.
