[WJ Palooza] SATURDAY – Punchbowl (Advanced) – FULL

Sign up for ONE Saturday and ONE Sunday trip. If you do not get accepted on your first choice trip then you may sign up for a different one. (Same format as Boree Log!). You must be signed up to this main event to sign up to individual trips

Vertical, sporty, and BIG! Punchbowl has it all, abseil in and experience features such as the “Flattener”, and “The Laundry Chute”. Explore “Jimmy’s Hole”, and spend some time sculpting in the “Dung Hole”. Top it off by sliding down the “Slippery Dips” and squeezing through “Strawberry Shortcut” before a ~25m prusik in two pitches back to daylight (and the bathrooms).

Punchbowl is an excellent cave filled with large chambers connected by some squeezes. To enter you will need to abseil down ~25m. To exit you must ascend ~25m back up the rope! This is a big day full of exploration. You must be fit, and comfortable with heights to come on this trip. Rope skills are MANDATORY.

 FYI There are a large number of bats present in this cave! (and also bat poo / guano). They are very small and cute – very unlikely to bite you!

Gear that can be borrowed on the day of

Please let us know in the comments what gear you are missing from this list. Do NOT borrow these items from the gear cupboard – the club will bring this equipment directly to Wee Jasper (similar to Boree Log!).

Caving Gear:

Vertical Gear:

• • Harness (Canyon harness preferred).
  • Hand Ascender (eg Jumar, Petzl Basic, or similar)
  • Chest ascender (eg Croll or similar)
  • Descender (Inline – Petzl Stop, Raprak or similar)
  • Chest Harness (Dedicated chest harness or 120cm sling)
  • Dual Cows’ tail (safety tether with 2 ends)
  • Foot loop (120cm sling, or long accessory cord)

• 4 Locking Carabiners
• 2 Non locking carabiners (or locking carabiners)

BYO Gear for Caving

• • Caving Clothes (overalls, or OLD long pants and long sleeve shirt – The club will bring some overalls, but these are not guaranteed to fit you!)
  • Thermals to wear in cave under clothes
  • 2x Headlights + spare batteries
    • For those who have rechargeable headlights – I recommend bringing a powerbank. The cold can drain the batteries overnight
  • Shoes that can get dirty and muddy (eg Sneakers, Gumboots)
  • Small bottle of water (this may become your pee bottle if you need to go)
  • Small packed lunch – nothing messy that will end up all over the floor!
  • Small backpack that can get dirty
  • Snacks!
  • Soft Kneepads and/or Elbowpads – OPTIONAL but nice to have
  • Your best Bane or Batman impression
