1. Everybody borrowing club gear has to leave a deposit (deposit details on the gear page).
2. Members of the club can rent gear for private trips for a hire fee. A trip is a private trip if it is not announced on the website. Gear can only be rented for private trips if it is not needed for a club trip (rental details on the gear page).
3. If gear gets damaged or lost on a club trip by a club member either:
- The club pays for the replacement or repair, if the gear was handled and used in a reasonable and appropriate manner. The deposit will be fully refunded. This is particularly important for damage to safety gear which cannot be inspected by eye. Borrower must inform gear officer at return of gear of any possible damage.
- The borrower has to pay for the replacement or repair, if the loss or damage was caused by carelessness or misuse. The deposit will only be refunded up to the cost of replacement or repair, if this cost was lower than the amount of the deposit.
- If the replacement value is less than $300, the borrower pays the full value of the replacement cost.
- If the replacement value is greater than $300, the borrower pays 50% of the full value or $300 of the replacement cost, whichever is greater. This also applies to those storing gear at their places of residence, such as mountain bikes.
- In all cases, the borrower may plead their case at an executive meeting.
4. If gear gets damaged or lost on a private trip or by a non-club member, the borrower has to pay for the replacement or repair. The deposit will only be refunded up to the cost of replacement or repair, if this cost was lower than the amount of the deposit.
5. Hire rate is set depending on the cost of the item and is to finance gear replacement and maintenance.
