The Boree Log is a club tradition dating back over 50 years! It's our twice annual camp held somewhere around Sydney and all club members are invited to come - the more the merrier!
Most people arrive on the Friday night and set up camp. On Saturday various activities are run such as canyoning, bushwalking, canoeing and climbing depending on the chosen location.
Saturday night is the big one, it's a club tradition for everyone to wear a costume some of sort to match a theme (you can get something suitable for $15 from your local opshop…) and eat a nice dinner.
What to bring?
For many people the Boree Log is their first camping trip. With this in mind we've created a packing list. Please have a careful read over it before asking any questions. We just don't have the time to answer hundreds of questions which could be answered by reading this list. If you ask a question which could be answered by reading this list your email will be DELETED.
Getting There
If you want to come to the Boree Log, you need to organise your own transport to the camp. There are far too many people coming to Boree Log and far to many other things to look after for the exec to make sure everybody has a car spot.
To find a spot in a car going to Boree Log, keep your eyes on the facebook and post messages yourself.
If you are driving to Boree Log, please be a good sport and try to fill up your car - it'll keep your petrol costs down.
Sometimes a bus or pick ups from the nearest train station are offered, but it is your own responsibility to organise a spot on either and be on the right train at the right time. DON'T ASSUME that there is a spot for you without confirming it in advance with the organisers.
Cost?
You will be paying pretty much exactly for what you are getting. The club does not make any money from Boree Log. The costs you are looking at:
- Transport:
petrol money for the driver of your car - $10-20
train fare and petrol money for the pick up from the train station - $15-25
bus - $25-30 - Food
whatever you spend at the supermarket to feed yourself for a whole weekend
drinks - bring more than you need and sell the rest - Camping Fees- $0-10 per night
FAQ
Please read this before asking a question!
What is it?
Boree Log is where we take a whole bunch of people up to the mountains for a weekend to go canyoning, climbing, and bushwalking. Most of the trips are beginner focused so there’s guaranteed to be a trip that will suit you.
Where are we going?
Check the event. Typically there are no amenities except for a toilet, (no drinking water!)
How much does it cost?
The camping and the event are free, so all you have to pay for is your transport and your food, except for Saturday night where we feed you a grand feast for free!
How do I get there?
There will be a facebook event for organising lifts. If you have a car with free spaces please post it there. Remember; the more people in your car the merrier and the lower the fuel cost, so lets get car-pooling!
What are we doing?
On Friday we do the regular drive up, set up camp, have a drink, go to bed.
On Saturday everybody gets up and sets off on their trips. On Saturday night we have a big themed party and dinner will be provided on the night, including a vegetarian option.
On Sunday everybody drags themselves out of bed, regretting the night before and gets herded into their activities. Before anyone sets off, all the groups will receive different cleaning/packing tasks so we leave the campsite as we found it and save the exec and helpers a lot of work.
How many trips can I do?
Trips are full day affairs, so you can do one trip on Saturday and one on Sunday.
What do I need to bring?
There is a general packing list for Boree log here which tells you what you will need for the weekend. Equipment specific to the trips you are attending can be found either in your trip description or the relevant sports’ page.
I haven’t signed up to the club yet, but would like to come, can I reserve a spot until I join?
No, the demand for this event is very high so if you want to come to any club event you need to have a current membership giving you access to the website where you can book to attend a trip. There are a few ways to join, including online, look at the ‘Join’ page on the website for more information.
I have signed up to a Boree Log day trip but I haven’t signed up for the main Boree Log event. Can I come?
No. You need to sign up to the dedicated Boree Log event then sign up for a day trip. If you have signed up for a day trip but not the main Boree Log event your request will be removed.
Can I reserve gear before Boree Log?
Nope. You will not be able to reserve gear for trips as it will go to those who most need it. If you want to guarantee that you will have equipment it would be best to supply it yourself.
We need all club gear returned beforehand so we can bring it up for you to use on the weekend for free!
We don’t have much in the way of sleeping bags or mats, but there may be a 12 person tent which anyone can crash in.
Note: a good nights rest is not guaranteed in the “Communal Tent”.
Is there drinking water?
No, there might be a rainwater tank which we don't recommend drinking.
Is there phone reception?
No.
Will I have fun?
Hell yes.
Punch of Punishment
For those of you who aren't aware, Boree log is full of traditions, and the legendary Punch of Punishment is one of them! Nominate your friends, trip leaders or simply someone you saw who did something stupid/silly/funny on a club trip or outdoors adventure since last Boree log. We'll share the story next Boree Log over a cup of punch (or non-alcoholic beverage of choice) and a hearty laugh.
