Following the Rope Skills courses that many of our trip leaders have completed with ASM, I plan to run 4 training sessions for the next 4 Thursdays at the Ledge. We will cover a similar curriculum and learn a few rope skills that are essential to climbing, abseiling, canyoning, etc.
These sessions are designed for active club members who are already independent climbers (know how to lead climb, lead belay, and abseil). If you plan to become a trip leader, if you’re already a trip leader, and in general if you plan to stay for long in the club, sign up! Spots are very limited so please write down in the comments how you and the club would benefit from training.
- Night 1 (23rd): Prusiking. Includes self-belaying with classic and french prusik, and ascending a rope with kleimheist.
- Night 2 (30th): Isolated-strand abseiling and abseiling past a knot. Includes stone knot, alpine butterfly, and prusiking past a knot.
- Night 3 (6th): Top belay and releasable abseil. Includes how to top belay in tubular mode, guide mode, and how to set up a releasable abseil through a pre-locked munter hitch.
- Night 4 (13th): Rescue and hauling systems. Includes assisted and unassisted hauling (3:1).
If you have any questions, message me on facebook. You’ll need to bring your personal climbing gear. Happy climbing 🙂
