As a follow-up to Saturday's beginner climbing day, I thought I'd post some good video links for new climbers to watch and reference. The "Rock Climbing Basics" series is courtesy of Climbing Magazine, Wild Country and Red Chilli.
The belay method taught in this next video is the "cross under and slide" or 4 step method, which is a little different to the "shuffle" or 5 step method which is often taught by us and in Australia. They both work fine - the important thing is to reset your brake hand without letting go of the rope!
The poor gear guys are often disappointed to see ropes returned to the shed poorly coiled...so next time take a few minutes to learn how to do it, and save the trip leaders and gear guys some hassle!
For people starting to build their leading skills, here's a video showing a good method of clipping quickdraws. (The Rock Climbing Basics series also has a video).
Finally, for people starting to try the more overhanging routes at the Ledge, here's an excellent video on steep climbing technique.
