SUMMARY:[FULL] SUNDAY BL - MT WILSON Learn to Navigate Hike
DESCRIPTION:\n\nLearn some potentially life-saving skills while doing a fai
rly chill hike on Sunday at Boree Log! I'll be teaching a bunch of map rea
ding and compass navigation skills to boost your confidence outdoors and i
nspire you for future adventures. I'll print out a bunch of maps and bring
compasses (but bring your own if you have one!). No navigation experience
necessary. First note that:\n\nYou need to be approved for the main Boree
Log event to attend these trips. Please sign up for only ONE trip per day
. If you get rejected you can then sign up for another trip\, this just ma
kes it easier for volunteer trip leaders. Please be aware that as the weat
her is unpredictable\, trip leaders may need to alter trips accordingly\n\
nGrant and I (Hugh) will be leading a shortish bushwalk from Mt Wilson RFS
\, near Cathedral of Ferns\, while pausing at points to soak in some epic
views and match those views to a map. Expect a few wildlife and plant fact
s thrown in along the way. But come keen to learn some outdoor skills whil
e making new club friends - you need to have a moderate level of fitness f
or this hike too\, but this will be pretty slow moving as the main focus i
s learning some new navigation skills!\n\n\n\nRemember\, you need to have
a moderate level of fitness\, but don't need nav knowledge (if you do know
  navigation and want to refresh/learn more\, you're also welcome).\n\nAs a
  rough guide\, here's some track details: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/
 australia/new-south-wales/du-faur-lookout-via-bogey-holes-fire-trail-to-da
-faur-creek\n\nI expect to spend roughly 3 hours on the walk - we should b
e back at the cars\, ready to drive to Sydney\, by 1.00pm. When you sign u
p\, let me know if you have a car/how many spots (it'll be easier to drive
to the start from camp) and let me know what your favourite natural place
in the world is (so I know you've read all this!).\n\nWhat to bring:\n\n
An attitude of being willing to learn cool skills!\n Plenty of water - a
t least 2L per person. It could be very hot and sections have no shade\, a
nd there's no water available on the track or at the parking area.\n Suns
creen\, sunglasses and hat - essential to protect yourself from that nasty
UV.\n Snacks/lunch - we should be done by around 1.00pm but bring plenty
of high energy snacks.\n Sturdy\, enclosed shoes - definitely not a hike
for thongs.\n Raincoat and jacket for warmth - no matter the forecast\,
it could get very cold and windy quickly so be prepared.\n Any personal m
edication.\n (Optional) Compass - if you own one. I'll be borrowing a few
from the club gear cupboard to share around.\n Your phone (charged) with
the apps EmergencyPlus\, Gaia GPS and AllTrails loaded.\n\nSend me a mess
age on Facebook with any questions! Hope to see you at Boree Log :)\n\n&nb
