SUMMARY:SUNDAY BL – Ikara Head Track\, Asgard Plateau Day Hike [Beginner]
DESCRIPTION:You need to be approved for the main Boree Log event to attend
these trips. Please sign up for only ONE trip per day. If you get rejected
you can then sign up for another trip\, this just makes it easier for vol
unteer trip leaders. Please be aware that as the weather is unpredictable\
, trip leaders may need to alter trips accordingly\n\nHey all\, we’re do
ing a lazy Sunday hike along a ridgeline/neck to Ikara Head\, which has so
me pleasant views of a quieter part of the Grose Valley. The walk is about
~5.6km return and should take 2-3hrs so we’ll be ready to head back to
Sydney around ~1-2pm (assuming we leave on time in the morning!).\n\nDepen
ding on how the group feels\, we can also do a short detour down to the Gi
rraween Cave which overlooks some Blue Mountains hanging swamp.\n\nBe prep
ared for plants facts if we see anything interesting! but otherwise it’l
l likely be quite similar to the sandstone heathland/forest near Lockleys
Pylon. Most of the things you read online about this place mention a pink
flannel flower (Actinotus forsythii) superbloom from a few years back\, bu
t since this plant is a fire ephemeral I’d be quite surprised (and happy
) to see even one.\n\nSome track notes: https://hikingscenery.com/ikara-he
ad-track-blue-mountains/\n\nGetting there: Trailhead is 4km in on unsealed
roads from Mt Victoria if you’re driving. Note: this isn’t Ikara Hea
d Trail\, if you’ve gone that far\, turn back! It’s not very well sign
posted and isn’t even on Google Maps\; put 33°34'08.5"S 150°16'47.3"E
 into your phone.\n\nWhat to bring:\n\n 2L+ water\n Wear long sleeves\, t
rousers (unless you enjoy being exfoliated by vegetation)\n Enclosed shoe
 s\n Sun protection (hat\, sunscreen\, sunglasses)\n Raincoat/jacket (rid
ge tops can be quite windy/exposed\, but fingers crossed it won’t be nec
essary)\n Lunch and snacks\n\nPlease also let us know if what your hiking
experience is like/what hiking trip you've been on before\, and also whet
her you have car in the comment box below!
