Those who know me are probably aware that my other hobby is parkour an d AAPES parkour gym is running an Open Day full of free classes. I thought it would be a great opportunity for keen UNSWOC people to try something n ew. The class will be free to attend\, is beginner friendly\, you will jus t need to sign up on the gym's website.\n\n\n\nWhat Actually is Parkour?\n Contrary to popular belief\, it's not a sport about being a daredevil and jumping across skyscrapers. A couple people in parkour do those things for the clout but most of us think they're a little loopy.\n\nParkour is actu ally more about getting from A to B as efficiently as possible. If there a re obstacles in your way\, there are lots of different techniques to get t hrough them and some look pretty cool. There are many different aspects of the sport and people often tend to be drawn to some more than others. The se include: bars\, vaults\, jumps and strides\, walls\, flow\, and more!\n \nThis sport is fantastic for building your coordination and also changing the way you see the world around you. Ugly walls suddenly become very app ealing for a bit of fun and exercise (the climbers should relate to this). \n\nThere is also another side to the sport called Freerunning. This invol ves more of the flashy tricks and flips.\n\n\n\nEvent Details\nThe AAPES O pen Day is on Saturday June 27th. There are two adult classes taking place that day and we will be attending the 6-7pm class as there will be an ope n session afterwards for free-play in the gym. The other adult class is at 12pm which you are welcome to attend instead. This class is completely be ginner friendly and the instructors will go over all the basics of parkour .\nWhat to Bring:\n\n A good pair of runners\n Clothes you can move in\n Water\n A keen attitude!\n\nInterested? The gym is public transport accessible but if people are coming from similar areas then can organise carpooling in the chat.
