SUMMARY:Multipitch anchor building workshop
DESCRIPTION:EVENT FULL!!\n\nIn the first of what I hope will become a serie
s of training sessions\, I will run a belay anchor systems workshop on cam
pus on Tuesday 23rd June at 7pm. This will be suitable for anyone who has
lead climbed sport routes and clipped lower-offs but doesn't know how to b
uild--or even what is--a top-belay.\n\nMost routes in the mountains are sp
ort climbs equipped with convenient lower-offs. These take many forms but
basically allow the climber to clip quickdraws and be lowered back to the
ground. In less sport friendly areas--including several crags in the Blue
Mountains--it is necessary to construct your own belay anchor from a colle
ction of trees and shrubs\, manky old carrot bolts\, threads and gear plac
ements. This is the case on both single-pitch and multi-pitch climbs.\n\nA
focus of this session will be on anchors for multi-pitch climbing based o
n scenarios commonly encountered in the mountains\, but will also be appli
cable at other climbing areas. I will bring in a bunch of gear and we will
learn by making different anchoring systems so numbers will be capped at
8.\n\nThe content will refer to John Long's seminal Climbing Anchors book.
The club just bought a copy which can be borrowed but I'll also try scan
the relevant chapter to email to attendees.\n\nAny questions email me: ren
