SUMMARY:[TRIP FULL] Monday Arvo Beginner Canyon - EMPRESS
DESCRIPTION:\n\nThis trip is now full. We had a lot of sign ups for this tr
ip so unfortunately are not able to take everyone. Keep an eye out (and tu
rn those email notifications on) as we should be running many more canyoni
ng trips as the weather continues to get warmer!\n\nIt's time to wag work/
uni and join Greta and me (Stephen) for a trip down Empress Canyon\, a lil
beauty of a canyon with a big waterfall abseil at the end!\n\nEmpress is
packed full of value and is fairly short (about 2-3 hours)\, so we'll be m
eeting at Wentworth Falls at 1:15pm\, which leaves you the morning to do w
hatever you wish (maybe a quick climb\, or I've heard Katoomba has a great
chocolate shop). I've also got 3 spots in my car to pick up any people wh
o want to take the 1:09 pm train.\n\nBeginners are welcome on this trip an
d we can teach you to abseil / make sure you're safe on the day\, although
a head for heights is needed as the waterfall abseil is 30m long and has
 a bit of a tricky start.\n\nYou will need:\n\n Harness*\n Descender* (fi
gure 8\, or ATC) and a carabiner\n Safety sling and carabiner*\n Prusik
and carabiner* if you would like to learn how to self-belay\n At least 1.
5L water\n Food: lunch\, snacks.\n Emergency blanket (compulsory for all
club canyons\, can be bought from the gear cupboard for $5)\n Helmet*\n
Wetsuit*\n Board shorts (to wear over wetsuit\, compulsory if wearing a
club wetsuit)\n Backpack (big enough to hold everything)\n Dry bag*\n
Enclosed Shoes (Volleys or old sneakers are good options)\n Woollen soc
 ks\n Headtorch\n Dry thermals/jumper (not cotton!) for emergency\n Dry
clothes to leave in car\n Sunscreen\n No cotton (it gets very cold when
wet)\n\nItems with an asterisk (*) can be borrowed from the gear cupboard.
\n\nIn the comments please include your abseiling and canyoning experience
\, whether you've got a car with spots\, and what your favourite outdoor s
nack is (so I know you've read this far).
