SUMMARY:Get your fingers taped ladies\, our Annual Girls Climbing Trip is h
 ere!
DESCRIPTION:Get that gear ready\, get those fingers taped\, ladies\, our an
nual girls climbing trip is here!\n\n\n\nThis is the plan: Weekend of the
17th-18th of November. Leaving on Saturday at 8 am from Sydney to the Blue
ys (keep in mind we have the UNSWOC Awards the night before!)\, and back o
n Sunday night. We will climb on Saturday\, camp at Mt York or Mt Wilson o
n Saturday night\, and climb on Sunday as well at a different crag. We wil
l agree on the crags later\, but they will be cool crags. It will be aweso
me to share a weekend with all the female climbers from our club and have
fun and get strong together\, so make sure you sign up!\n\nPlease note thi
s is a self-sufficient trip. You're expected to organize your own climbing
  gear\, be a self-sufficient climber\, and bring your food\, water\, campi
ng gear\, etc. However\, we are also happy to take you on board if you're
still learning or if you prefer a top rope set up. If that's the case\, pl
ease message me (Maria LC) on facebook and we will arrange it. For all the
experienced climbers\, let's all help those newbies out! We will sort tra
nsport out in the facebook chat. Beginner or experience\, we will have fun
and learn from each other :)\n\nWhy do we organize an annual girls climbi
ng trip?: It's is important that we get this right. The UNSWOC encourages
everyone from any gender/nationality/religion/background/etc to join the c
lub\, go on trips together\, climb together\, make best friends\, and have
fun in the outdoors. However\, it is important we also acknowledge that t
his equal participation and support in sports has not always been like thi
s\, especially for women. Some quick data\, the first modern Olympic Games
were held in 1896 (Athens). However\, the first time women were allowed t
o participate in the Olympic Games was in 1900 (Paris). And the first time
women competed in every sport was in 2012 (London). This means that women
(like Alice Milliat\, in the photo!) had to fight for their right to prac
tice sports and compete for a long time\, unlike men. Even nowadays\, ther
e are still countries that discriminate against women in sports. This trip
is organised because we don't take our rights for granted and to thank ev
ery woman and man who fight for equal rights. And because we love climbing
 !\n\n
