SUMMARY:Get your fingers taped ladies\, our Annual Girls Climbing Trip is h
 ere!
DESCRIPTION:Get that gear ready\, get those fingers taped\, ladies\, our an
nual girls climbing trip is here!\n\n\n\nOn SUNDAY 8th\, a bunch of us wil
l go climbing together at a crag TBA (weather dependent\, we will agree on
the crags later\, but they will be cool crags :P )\, probably in the Blue
ys. It will be awesome to share a day with all the female climbers from ou
r club and have fun and get strong together\, so make sure you sign up!\n\
n Please note this is a self-sufficient trip. You're expected to organize
your own climbing gear\, be a self-sufficient climber\, and bring your fo
 od\, water\, camping gear\, etc. \n HOWEVER\, we are also happy to take y
ou on board if you're still learning or if you prefer a top rope set up. I
f that's the case\, please message me (Maria LC) on facebook and we will a
rrange it. For all the experienced climbers\, let's all help those newbies
out! We will sort transport out in the facebook chat. Beginner or experie
nce\, we will have fun and learn from each other :)\n\nWhy do we organize
an annual girls climbing trip?: It is important that we get this right. Th
e UNSWOC encourages everyone from any gender/nationality/religion/backgrou
nd/etc to join the club\, go on trips together\, climb together\, make bes
t friends\, and have fun in the outdoors. However\, it is important we als
o acknowledge that this equal participation and support in sports has not
always been like this\, especially for women. Some quick data\, the first
modern Olympic Games were held in 1896 (Athens). However\, the first time
women were allowed to participate in the Olympic Games was in 1900 (Paris)
. And the first time women competed in every sport was in 2012 (London). T
his means that women (like Alice Milliat\, in the photo!) had to fight for
their right to practice sports and compete for a long time\, unlike men.
Even nowadays\, there are still countries that discriminate against women
in sports. This trip is organised because we don't take our rights for gra
nted and to thank every woman and man who fight for equal rights. And beca
 use we love climbing!\n\n
