SUMMARY:[BP 2026] SATURDAY ADVANCED - DRUM CAVE FULL
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://unswoc.org/wordpress/events/caving-srt-work
shop-ledge-02-07/SIGNUPS WILL OPEN UP AT 9PM Tuesday 23/06\n\n&nbsp\;\nSig
n up for ONE Saturday and ONE Sunday trip. If you do not get accepted o
n your first choice trip then you may sign up for a different one. (Same f
ormat as Boree Log!). You must be signed up to the main event to sign up t
o individual trips\n\n\n\n**This is a Vertical Trip and you must have prio
r SRT Rope Skills experience**\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDrum Cave is for those whole c
an already abseil and ascend confidently and are comfortable navigating re
belays and ropework on exposed\, slippery traverses. It is a bat breeding
and nursery cave so an affinity for our furry friends also recommended.\n\
nWalk into the largest cave entry in Bungonia before descending down the f
irst 46m abseil into the abyss. This may be done in two pitches which coul
d require passing a rebelay. Check for foul air (Drum Cave is notorious) b
efore continuing on through a short squeeze into the Collapse Chamber.\n\n
A series of small drops leads to the second abseil of about 15m. Stop ¾ o
f the way down if you want to enjoy a pointless squeeze to nowhere for abo
ut 30m. Otherwise continue down into the Railway Tunnel where there are tw
o options. Ascend 20m up into the roof and do an awkward changeover to cla
mber up a super exposed rubble slope into Drum extension.\n\nEnjoy slippin
g and sliding around in guano through 300m of bonus cave content\, maybe e
ven hitting the magical stream at the end (if foul air doesn’t get you f
irst). Then return to do the awkward rubble slope change over and 20m desc
ent all over again (but in reverse!).\n\nNow you can take the other route\
, down a 10m pitch and onwards into the sump. You’ve hit the end! Time t
o go all the way back up! Ascend every pitch (70m total) you just came dow
n and be prepared to suffer. Then forget all about it and cave again the n
 ext day!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat YOU need:\n\n Helmet*\n Headlight and s
pare batteries\n Spare light source + spare batteries (a malfunction of p
rimary light would be quite inconvenient)\n Shoes you're not afraid to ge
 t muddy / dirty\n Small bottle of water\n Personal medications (epipen\,
inhaler etc)\n Snacks / small lunch\n Old shirt / pants / overalls you
can wear inside the cave\n Small backpack to carry your things\n Gloves
(eg gardening gloves)\n If you have your own SRT equipment\, please bring
them along (eg Caving / Canyoning Harness\, Caving Descender\, Chest A
scender\, Hand Ascender)\n\n*These can be borrowed from the club on the m
orning of\n\n\n\nDrum Cave is an advanced caving trip (and a long day!)\,
where vertical rope skills is a must. When signing up for this trip\, plea
se make sure to include a) Have you ascended using Mechanical ascenders be
fore b) Do you have any prior experience ascending / descending past rebel
ays. If not\, are you planning to attend one of the SRT Ledge workshops? (
sign up links below) c) what your favourite arachnid is!\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSig
